Brass Nipples.( Without the silver plating) |
First stopped off a the retro ACE Hardware store in downtown Encinitas. I imagine that building on Coast Hwy. 101 is pricy to lease (or own). The store is packed with stuff, just like the old time Coast To Coast Hardware Store in Hartley, IA. They were busy again, but I managed to sneak in a order for 2-5" wheels, axle diameter of 9.25mm. They all should come in next week.
Next up was a short ride down the street to Nytro. Normal early morning pace in there. Chatted with Joe in spurts in his "cubby-hole" office. Busy on the phone with cyclists and helping staff to get organized. I noticed 6 new bikes parked side by side nearby. Three Cannondales, two Cervelos and another brand. ( Like last time I was here see blog entry). I asked if they were the same bikes as Tuesday. Nope, new orders ready to get fitted and picked up! Joe said yesterday (Thursday) was a busy day in the store. Thursdays seem to be busy whenever I would stop by that day. I also picked up 32-Brass Nipples when I was there. Need to work my wheels over on the SOMA a bit. Have a little "hump" in the rear. Brass nipples don't have the "corrosion effect" with steel spokes as do Aluminum nipples. Only long distance way to go.
Went to Swami's for a banana and BR before heading back to San Marcos. I guess you could call that a recovery ride.
Keith Olsen email me yesterday about 2 Cyclo-Vet riders going down on Rose Canyon Bike Path. One was busted up good and is in the hospital. The other was hurt too. I don't know all the details, but they must have been going southward at a good rate of speed. I don't think Keith was riding with the group that day.
Nice riding this morning.
