Randonneur Matthew O'Neil Killed by truck

Our friend and fellow Randonneur Matthew O'Neil was hit by a truck on Saturday evening and was killed while riding the California Central Coast 1000km put on by the Santa Cruz Randonneurs.

 "A 33-year-old cyclist from Chula Vista was killed Saturday evening when he was struck by a pickup pulling a trailer on Foxen Canyon Road, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
The man, who's name was not released, was riding a Bacchetta recumbent bicycle westbound on Foxen Canyon Road east of Dominion Road when he was struck about 7:30 p.m., the CHP report said.
A 16-year-old boy from Santa Maria was pulling a horse trailer westbound on Foxen Canyon Road with a 2007 Chevrolet 3500 dual-wheel pickup when he struck the cyclist, who died at the scene, the report said.

Neither the boy nor his 18-year-old male passenger, whose names also were not released, were injured in the collision.
The CHP said neither drugs nor alcohol were a factor in the collision, but the incident is still under investigation."
